I would to buy a portable Apple Computer under the $1500. I have a
question: will can i develop software for OS X?
Is the '12/'14 video
confortable to use the PB and other macosx development related tools?
I have an iBook that's about 1 1/2 years old now (600MHz), and it
still works fine for developing for Jaguar. Make sure you have a good
bunch of RAM though. The default amounts that Macs ship with are
usually less than what's needed to do speedy work. I admit, I'm more
comfortable with the 17" screen of my desktop, but one can still work
with the smaller one of the 'book. However, I wouldn't use anything
below 1024x768. PB's menu bar just about fits that size.
When Panther will be released can i update to it?
I don't think it's likely that Apple will drop support for computers
that have been released one or two years ago. Of course, whether it's
still comfortable is an entirely different issue, which can only be
answered by someone who has access to early seeds of the new OS.
However, Apple's past record in that area looks good. My sister
still does development for Jaguar on a 2nd generation iMac, and
although it's noticeable that the machine is dated, it's still a
workable set-up (though she's a beginner, and neither her nor me do
high-end video editing software or other CPU intensive programs).
Although I don't know anything about the OS and Apple's plans, I
wouldn't be too worried about being able to use this stuff on a
current Mac.
Tomorrow will be released the new 64bit machines... will can continue
to develop for MacOSX with an "old" 32-bit machine? The next release of
MacOSX will can be used only with a 64bit cpu?
The key is "tomorrow". Anyone who wants to get a new computer is
ill advised to do so if they know for certain a new model will be
introduced in a few days. (Sadly, I'm talking from experience here)
I can't buy a 64bit machine... the price will be over the $1500 that i
can use... i think ;)
Wait and see. At most, the drop in price when the new machines come
out may mean you can get a much more high-end Mac than you could now.
