[OT] PB to Editor

I know about the PB-list, but maybe some Cocoa developer is also a PB expert.

Since PB 2.1 "External editors are now supported by Project Builder."
Well, I have set up my own editor. Works fine, but if there's a selection range or line number, my editor will not show it.
The release notes say about this "More sophisticated integration requires more support from the external application."

Question is: what has my editor to learn to understand the communication about line numbers from PB ? Is there some sort of API documented somewhere?

Gerriet.
