I suspect that the author's company has products that can protect
against security threats posed by other software but only if they are
written with high-level languages.
So, in other words, the article is just self-serving crap: "Please
program in Java, so we can sell our software that patches up the C
security holes in Windows."
As Apple has clearly demonstrated with OS X, security should be built
from the operating system level on up.
I don't get it... The article's author states implicitly that too many
bugs
are caused by using low level programming languages:
"Until Unix and Linux programmers get over their macho love for
low-level
programming languages, the security holes will continue to flow freely,
argues SecurityFocus columnist Jon Lasser."
But later on, he admits that higher level languages still have lots of
security holes:
"I don't believe that software written in high-level languages is free
of
security holes: the number of bugs in Web applications written in Perl
and
PHP is astounding. "
So what is he saying? That high level languages are good cuz.... Why?
Personally I don9t buy the 'CPU and memory is getting faster/cheaper"
to me
that9s a cop-out - an unwillingness to think about performance. You
don9t
have to write your code optimized to start, but why not keep it mind
all the
way along?
This article is interesting, but ultimately discredits itself.
