Writing in the Finder Comment field

I am creating some files, and would like to write something to the comment
field in the Get Info window of the Finder. I can't seem to find any info on
how to do this, so a point in the right direction would be great. Also, I am
not sure on this, but is it possible to read those "comments" back in? I
would think if you could write them, you could read them.
