It _can_ also all be done manually, though it takes a lot of
error-prone work. The background can be hidden after it has been
selected in the Finder using SetFile (/Developer/Tools).
But FileStorm makes it all _so_ much more smooth! It is a great tool
that saved me many hours of packaging.
