This is more a user question than a developer question, but then
developers who wish to ship a disk image of their product with a
background picture need to know...
How does one create a Disk Image (hopefully using Disk Util) with a
background picture on the disks, but not have the image appear as a
file on the disk?
First time I tried to create a disk image, I was able to select the
correct background image from my hard drive. The disk image appeared
correctly, but when I emailed the DMG file to another machine, the disk
image it showed when opened did not have the background picture. I
realised that DMG file was looking for my picture on my hard drive.
So the second time, I copied the jpg file onto my disk image, and set
the background image for that disk to the file. This works fine on my
machine and others now. BUT I do not want the user to be confused and
see that disk image.
How can I get around this?
Some suggestions from friends was to make the file begin with . so that
it was invisible from Finder. I used Terminal to do this, and found the
file was now so invisible I could not set the background picture to it.
Another suggestion was to embeded the file into my applications bundle.
Ignoring the fact this would be extra artwork in the bundle, the
Finders Show View Option would not allow me to go into a Bundle for a
background image.
Any other suggestions?
Thank you,
Steve Sheets
