In the long run I'm sure NSController will be great for the platform,

If I create any new applications I may consider using NSController
(limiting myself to Panther), but that would also limit my audience
and may not be worth it for a while.
I think the new Cocoa features in Panther are so compelling for so many
developers that we'll see a lot of Panther-only software very quickly.
And I think the new end-user features in Panther are so compelling for
so many users (speed!) that we'll see a lot of end-users upgrading very
quickly.
I think this will make it feasible for many developers to write
Panther-specific software today, even though in the past it generally
wasn't possible to write only for the very latest version of the
operating system as soon as it was released.
Of course, it also depends on your market. I think Panther Cocoa will
be extremely compelling for custom corporate applications, and since my
company targets corporate switchers for whom Panther and Panther server
are themselves extremely compelling...
