There must be a better way than having to hack this madness over and over again! Why is the Mail API not documented?

They just like seeing you squirm. :)

Seriously though, it's probably just a case of lack of time. Additionally, Mail still has a fair way to go (even in Panther) to be a good, powerful email client, so they're probably keeping their options open in terms of API's and the like.

On the subject of Mail plugins though, I've been having a lot of trouble finding free source* examples, other than Zoe. Does anyone know of any, or better yet, some formal documentation for the Mail plugin framework/api/whatever?

* = Free source meaning truly free, not just open, so not GPL'd (e.g. GPGMail). I don't wish to have to adopt the GPL by using or deriving from any such code. LGPL is not suitable either, for my purposes.
