Some contributors to this list have hinted that ProjectBuilder will not work under Panther.

It does work and works fine. I just used it to compile GNUStep-Base.

But:

1. It's almost certainly unsupported. By which I mean that Apple won't have tested it and won't want to know about any problems that do exist.

2. Installing it on a clean Panther system may break things, especially if the system already has the Panther developer tools.

3. Even if it does work, who knows which systems will be able to run the resulting executables. They'll work on Panther, because that was where they were built, but they might not work on any previous incarnation of Mac OS X.

So it's probably best not to use PB on Panther.

Still, it would be nice to know to what extent it does or doesn't work on Panther, in particular all the potential problems you've noted above, just to keep the options open. I don't have Panther yet, so I can't comment on XCode personally, but it's taken me over a year just to get used to Project Builder's little nuances... I don't want to have to learn all the bugs all over again. :/
