Beginner C questions a bit anoying and not on-topic in my opinion.
I suggest you read two books on C:
1. any C book for beginners
2. Peter van der Linden's "Expert C Programming" (read this multiple times)
Another suggestion for C beginners would be to subscribe to the
Student-Dev list, which isn't bound to a language in particular. Such
questions do come up there occasionally, and those students who have
serious Cocoa questions are free to go to Cocoa-Dev.
But if you have access to some news service (hint:
http://groups.google.com if you don't mind a web interface instead of
a decent newsreader), comp.lang.c would probably be better. That
group is dedicated to ANSI C questions. Just don't ask about a
particular Mac API there...
