A lot of this is because people come into the community quite regularly
(and I'm not just referring to this mailing list) and then start asking
questions about Objective-C so they can compare it with the language
they're most used to. When they find out that it has a very different
design philosophy, they start attacking it for not being (Java, C++,
C#, Smalltalk, Common Lisp, etc.), calling it crap, etc.
From what I've observed, this has apparently conditioned some members
of the community to go on the offensive if they think they're being
asked "leading questions," the answers to which will be used to fuel
rants about how awful Objective-C must be by the questioner. This has
happened plenty of times in the past.
For what it's worth, this is how I perceived your list of questions.
However, I tried to take you at face value and answer them honestly,
and hopefully not too inflammatorily, in hopes that as you gain more
knowledge about the language and experience working with it you'll see
that despite what you might initially perceive as shortcomings it
really is a wonderful language and set of frameworks.
I know several Java developers who have gone that route. They still
like and use Java, they also like and use Objective-C, they appreciate
both languages' strengths, and generally they've discovered that they
don't want to turn Objective-C into Java after all.
