Hi, I'm a newcomer to the list, so forgive me if this has been asked a

Java+Cocoa questions, or is this strictly an Obj-C group?
Officially it's for all Cocoa development, but you'll find that the
vast majority of us here do it in Objective-C. My personal opinion is
that for developing in Cocoa, objective-C is the way to go, even if you
don't know it at the start. If you already know Java or another OO
language using C-style syntax, you can pick up the basics quickly and
since you're coming in cold, you have to learn the foundation and
appkit classes and methods anyway. It will take you a little while
longer to start "thinking" in objective-C, but you should be able to
start creating working programs in very short order even with having to
pick up a new language.
Bottom line, ask away with the Java questions, but keep in mind that
there's not a huge number of people anywhere doing a lot of Cocoa/Java
work, and you're likely to get periodically told that you should learn
Objective-C for a variety of reasons. Actual results may vary. =)
