True enough. Though it really depends on the timeframe you've got to implement that application. And given that the
OP admits not having any first-hand knowledge of Windows programming (which by inference includes the development
tools used on that platform) I still wouldn't dare to plunge into the i-support-many-compilers-game (while it's great
if you can, though!).

And yeah, it just feels so good if you can say: must be a bug in that compiler, since no other compiler chokes on this :-)
