Really? I just tried it with one of my .nib files, and after

and very readable.
Just tried it this instant, and while keyedobjects.nib is text,
objects.nib
is clearly binary.
Now, perhaps I should be ignoring objects.nib? Or perhaps its not
supposed
to be there and thats whats causing the grief?
I'm starting from the HexWindow.nib that can be downloaded from the
ResKnife
sourceforge site, and I'm opening it, and saving as HexWindow2 and in
the
process, I upgrade to "both formats" and "text-format".
I think the reason you're getting the objects.nib file is because you
selected "both formats". The older 10.1 format doesn't have a text
archive format, it's all binary. Therefore, what you probably want to
do is not save in "both formats" and delete the objects.nib, but rather
just save it in 10.2 or later format.
