Daniel, thank you - the links were helpful.

I will take Jeff's advice and e-mail Apple directly
about the use of the iPhoto slider icons, as this
seems the safest route. If they don't allow it, I
guess I'll just use innocuous +/- signs, though that
would be a shame as it would be nice to stay in tune
with the i- apps. I will post here if I receive a
reply that may be useful to others.
