Read the Apple HIG. Having cancel as the default button is STRONGLY discouraged

Have a read yourself :) I'm pretty sure the Apple HIG doesn't discourage having Cancel as the default button. In fact, I found this quote

"Usually the rightmost button or the Cancel button is the default button."

which does seem to allow for a default Cancel button.

<http://developer.apple.com/documentation/UserExperience/Conceptual/ OSXHIGuidelines/XHIGLayout/chapter_19_section_2.html>

Even emptying the trash in the Finder has 'OK' as the default button.

There are counter examples. To wit: in Disk Utility, clicking the disk erase button gets you a sheet with the Cancel button as the default. The Cancel button is even in the proper location relative to the action button ("Erase" in this case). My situation is similar.

Thanks for the tip about not posting a new message by replying to an old one.
