I wrote a new application to test just the drawing part that I was
having problems with - something I should have done previously.
Actually, I had created a few smaller applications to test other
drawing approaches, but this version encompassed the whole issue.
I don't know exactly what the problem was yet, but I have managed to
achieve my desired results in the new application.
So, I'll track down the problem in my original application and post the
solution here in case anyone is interested.
