Personally, I recommend 'Cocoa Programming' (if you want drawing -> get
this!) and
all books by Hillegas. I didn't like the O'Reilly ones that much
(sorry, Tim ;-))
Additionally: If you want to do serious work with Cocoa, get used to
IB. If you want
to do serious work with Cocoa, dissect it, too.
If you want to do serious work with Cocoa, well, don't start with the
hardest tasks...
Try to do some easy things first, before you cover yourself with
superfluous lines of
GUI code - that comes early enough. You sound like you know about
programming, so why are you
so narrow-minded about using new tools? All people here know the power
(and shortcomings) of
IB, so they won't try to sell you Just Another 4GL tool. This isn't
Delphi (been there, done that,
still in therapy...).
And don't try to learn that stuff without having at least a decent book
at hand!
