Not meaning to ask people to break their NDA with Apple, but as a
future developer for Tiger I am very interested in the metadata search
engine (Spotlight that is).
I didn't get to go to the WWDC myself and as such I don't have Tiger -
however my friend does and I've seen it in action - it is truly a
marvel.
I'm very interested in how the metadata is stored (search-kit index
perhaps?) and where it is stored. Because I want to be able to read in
the index and search through it - Yes I realize that the Finder and
Spotlight already can do this for me (and the user).
However I want to create a context sensitive live search...
Such as when the user clicks on a tab it gives related information
about the contents of the tab on the user's hard drive.
To do this I would have to be able to search the entire hard drives
meta-data index (and the indices contents as well).
I'm hoping that Apple has exposed this ability in Tiger to more than
just Spotlight and the Finder;
I could see truly amazing applications with this ability.
Once again I don't expect anyone to reply with NDA material - however I
would like any (and as much) non-NDA information as possible (even if
its simply a hint from a apple guy about if it is or will be possible
in Tiger).
Thanks,
Lee
