small or mini NSSegmentedControl in textured windows

It seems as though NSSegmentedControl only has one size in textured windows. Setting it to small nor mini seems to have no effect.

But if you put a normal-sized NSSegmentControl in a textured window and compare it to the segment control in Address Book, you'll see Address Book's control is smaller. It doesn't look like Address Book's segmented control is "fake" (I don't see the graphics for it in the package), so does anyone have any idea how Apple managed to coerce the NSSegmentedControl to be small in the textured Address Book?
