It seems as though NSSegmentedControl only has one size in textured

But if you put a normal-sized NSSegmentControl in a textured window
and compare it to the segment control in Address Book, you'll see
Address Book's control is smaller. It doesn't look like Address Book's
segmented control is "fake" (I don't see the graphics for it in the
package), so does anyone have any idea how Apple managed to coerce the
NSSegmentedControl to be small in the textured Address Book?
It looks fake to me. Try clicking on the already-selected segment.
Note that it turns grey. Try clicking on the currently-selected
segment of a real NSSegmentedControl. It turns dark blue. (assuming
you haven't chosen the "graphite" appearance in System Preferences)
Nearly all of Apple's applications use fake segmented controls. This
probably due to the relatively late development of the standard
NSSegmentedControl. My guess is that they didn't finish implementing
all the features of NSSegmentedCell (including the smaller sizes for
textured windows) before the Panther release. After all, they didn't
even manage to get it into Interface Builder.
