That's unfortunate, probably maybe because most companies list all the 'talents' they can think of when writing a job offer. They must also be clueless about the value of these certification classes.

To me a "certified XXX developer" line on a resume has a value of 0.

All other things being equal I give the benefit to somebody who has bothered to get certification...

Perhaps they were doing something more valuable with their time--there is no such thing as "All other things being equal" when it comes to people.
