You don't need to. It's possible to use an eps file on a button, I
have just tried it. According to the documentation the image on a
button is an NSImage which can be created from any of a huge range of
different graphics file types, including tiff gif png and eps.
A tiff file will be smaller, faster to load and tiff is the "native"
format for the AppKit (from a historically point of view AFAIK).
