I'm not doubting the veracity of what you say. However, I don't think
it's unreasonable for them to have made that choice. I can recall many
times when I was a developer at a large software company where
customers would want me to answer technical questions to which I knew
the answer but which I didn't feel comfortable answering for various
reasons. I can't think of a single situation one where someone came to
my office and told me "you can't say 'X' to a customer or 'Y' to a
third party developer." The tone of the list seems to be that the Apple
developers should disregard their own discretion for the benefit of the
list members, which seems a little unfair to the Apple developers IMHO
(several of whom have gone out of their way to help me with problems
I've had). But, hey, it's a free world, and you're free to make your
own assumptions about their motivations.
