The defer flag should probably be YES per default, or do you have a
special reason to set it to NO?
Besides that minor point I like your suggestion - a very clever trick!
Even though you should usually avoid subclassing, in this particular
case it provides a solution that requires less code, and is probably
easier to maintain in the long run - and that is something I value a
lot.
