frame.size.height = 0?

In trying to create a Info Panel similar to those found in the Finder, I come across a strange problem. At what appears to be random intervals, the disclosure triangles with not trigger any change in the window. I traced this problem back to size.height for the containing window's frame returning 0, which is strange, since the window look to be of normal size at startup. Has anyone come across a similar problem? Thanks.
