Well, it ain't perfect by any stretch, but the sample code from my
article in the macdeveloperjournal magazine is online and available at
http://deallus.com/SearchKitExample1.zip.
Fraser Speirs (
http://fraserspeirs.livejournal.com) also had a great
bit of sample code/article in that same issue, although I'm not sure if
the code from that is available online or not. Googling around didn't
spot anything quickly for me, although I remember he talked about his
article in his blog a while back. (Found that - around 3/16/04 - he
didn't mention his code being online)
If you don't have a subscription to MacDevJournal, you can still get a
free sample from that site, which would probably be worthwhile between
my sample and Fraser's
