Hey, I've been looking for a way to obtain the desktop picture as an NSImage so I can put it in an imagewell. If anyone could help or point me in the right direction, that would be awesome. I've come up with an applescript that will get me the path - but I much rather find a pure cocoa solution. Thanks in advance.

Look for a file named com.apple.desktop.plist (or maybe even desktoppicture). It contains Aliases saved as NSData. I guess BDAlias or one of the other Alias wrapper classes could come in handy here to read those and get the path to pass to NSImage from that.
