Look at NSWindow -setWindowLayer: (or maybe ...Level). There are additional window levels in CoreGraphics, CGDesktopWindowLevel etc.


In a related question I'd also like it to sidestep Exposé... any ideas how to do that?

This has been covered a couple of times on this list. Look in the archives. I think the thread mentioned something about a "sticky" flag that's hidden somewhere in CoreGraphics.
