This documentation is the type I was looking for and should cover what
I need to learn. I see that, at this point in my Cocoa education, I've
been relying too much on textbooks and sample apps and not using Cocoa
Documentation efficiently. A quick scan of the references showed that I
didn't implement the Info.plist entry correctly. Fixing that at least
the app doesn't crash now.
Thanks to all for the help.

So IOW you didn't have the key in the info.plist? This explains
why it won't work then!
If you get the stated error when you modify the Info.plist then
it's most likely because you've broken the file so that it's no
longer valid XML.
Correct, didn't know about that IOW. How to fix project? If file was
broken why would it work again when I remove offending line?
Because the entry you added was what was broken?
Do you know of any reference documentation; I searched but couldn't
find.
