Well, that's OK for me then.
e-mail is now more media rich than it was in 1998 (when plain text
ruled). People who still want plain-text should also, I guess, plan to
go back to Performas or maybe an 8150 server.
But let's not pretend e-mail is the replacement for everything,
especially apache and/or FTP. So we now allow the kind of stuff that
email is useful for, but don't expect it to let you pass CD images
around...
especially on a mail list.
I don't think it's unfair to expect people to use mailers that support
four and five year old standards and technologies in them; but I don't
think we should assume people have gigabit into the houses or are happy
with 2 meg attachments...
(12K may be too small for a geek list with lots of code stuff in it.
we'll see. but the larger the limit is, the more garbage it'll
potentially allow. it's a tradeoff. this, at least, forces people to
think, not just toss in the kitchen sink in case someone wants it)
