Annoyingly (very), when the document is saved, its position in the
Finder (the icon coordinates) change. This can make the darn document
really hard to find next time around, especially when my users place
their files on the desktop. Even worse, many of my users have those
really nice Cinema displays. Given that my users are human (ie they are
messy; lots of icons on really big desktops), the fact that they can't
count on their memory to help out ("It was right there! Where did it
go?") makes this a nasty usability problem.

Any strategies for dealing with this would be very appreciated.
Consider FSExchangeObjects. I don't know that it will do what you want,
but I think it may and it has value otherwise over the technique I
think you're using:
