Hi there,

As I live on the other side of the planet, I was just wondering if anybody who knows San Francisco can recommend a hotel close to the WWDC convention centre?

The catch is that it's gotta be suitable for a person without a car. I realise that nice, inexpensive and close to the convention centre (or public transport?) are probably mutually exclusive :-)

I also realise that this is off-topic ( way off! ) but I figure there's gotta be other non-US developers out there who'd like to know as well?

Any help will be much appreciated!

Tom.
I can tell you right now, don't stay in the city itself if you can avoid it. Everything (hotel, food, etc) is cheaper outside the city. In the east bay, there's quite a few hotels that are right next to BART stations (Moscone is a 10 minute walk from either Montgomery or Powell station). While it means a longer (and somewhat more expensive) BART ride ($4.10 each way from, say Pleasant Hill or Walnut Creek), hotels are so much cheaper in the east bay that it makes a big difference. In Walnut Creek/Pleasant Hill*, for example, the Marriot is right next to the Pleasant Hill BART station. There's also nearby hotels in Lafayette, Emeryville, and Berkeley (though I wouldn't recommend Berkeley). The biggest disadvantage is the fact that it's an additional 20-30 minutes on BART to get there.

*The Pleasant Hill station is actually in Walnut Creek except for a corner of the parking garage, but since there's already a Walnut Creek station, they called it Pleasant Hill. The Mariott is (I think) actually in Pleasant Hill.
