Oh, and make sure that you have this pref. set to auto save if that's the behaviour you want:

Xcode Preferences > Building > For Unsaved Files: > Always Save

It might also make sense to try to disable Predictive Compilation if you have it enabled now - at least as part of your troubleshooting:

Xcode Preferences > Building > Use Predictive Compilation
