Natural language date entry problems

  • Subject: Natural language date entry problems

I have a text field with a date formatter on it which is set to allow natural language, but it seems to be doing stupid things with the data entered. I can't find any documentation of exactly what is acceptable and what is not - can anyone enlighten me?

Even Apple's examples don't work:

Today is 15th December.

I enter I expected I got
Today Thursday, 15 December 2005 Thursday, 15 December 2005
day before yesterday Tuesday, 13 December 2005 Wednesday, 14 December 2005
day after tomorrow Saturday, 17 December 2005 Friday, 16 December 2005
a month from today Sunday, 15 January 2006 Thursday, 15 December 2005
next tuesday Tuesday, 20 December 2005 Tuesday, 20 December 2005

So out of 5 trials, 2 came out as expected, and the three that didn't work were explicitly examples taken from Apple's documentation.

Any suggestions as to why this would be, or what to tell my users they can enter?

TIA
