I asked ADC reps about the DVDs back at WWDC. Mainly it was to
register my periodic request that the DVDs be sent out sooner, even if
it meant that they'd be a rough cut of some sort rather than the
polished product that they usually are.
They said there would be no DVDs, but that the videos would be
available online. I thought that was OK, but only because it didn't
occur to me that the videos would only be available for streaming, not
for downloading.
Earlier this year I contacted ADC about this, but all I could get our
of them was standard question-dodging, no real answers about anything
at all.
I don't know why Apple would do this. I mean, why shouldn't I be able
to watch the video offline? Why shouldn't I be able to watch it at
some point after Apple's decided not to keep them on their servers
anymore? It wouldn't be the first time I had watched WWDC videos more
than a year after the fact, but apparently Apple objects to me doing
so, or something.
On the whole I'm happy with Apple's developer programs, but this
decision really, really sucks.
