Who knows how Rosetta will run?
The only reason for Rosetta to even exist is to maintain
compatibility with current apps. So, unless you code at the
hardware level, everything working now should work on Intel Macs as
well.
Actually there are some other changes being made at the same time as
the switch to Intel that affect people who are writing *above* the
hardware level, even if they simply run their existing PowerPC code
under Rosetta. There are also some things that don't work with
Rosetta (e.g. programs that use Java, plug-ins for native apps,
probably other things too). Granted, most of these problems won't
affect that many developers in practice, but Alexander is right to
make the point that Rosetta isn't a panacea, there will still be a
some programs (*hopefully* a small number) that won't work right
until they're available in native form.
Kind regards,
Alastair.
