NSMenuValidation properly

Good afternoon!

I've been able to activate/deactivate my NSMenuItems,
but I haven't been able to deactivate their parents. I
mean, I have the Edit and Format menu items, that turn
gray when they're deactivated. However, I deactivate
the menus created by me and their main titles remain
black, even if all their contents are deactivated.
This looks bad on my application. How do I solve this?
Do I have to target and detarget every single item so
it can get gray? I hope I could explain myself.

Thanks a lot,

Luis!
