As said, it works great under 10.3 but not at all under 10.2, yet

truncation working under 10.2? Is there something wrong with this

The NSLineBreakByTruncatingMiddle option is not working in Mac OS X
10.2.
The Finder is a Carbon application so it explains why it's not affected.
