combining strings with floats into an NSTextView

hello, i am trying to do some calculations with floats and enter it into an NSTextView along with a string that explains the outcome of my calculation. i cant seem to figure out how to convert the float into a string. once i know how to do that i will just use the stringByAppendingString method. is this even the correct and most efficient way of doing this. i have been struggling with this all day. please help me.
