is NSDateTimeOrdering something your code needs to set before using, so
therefore set it appropriately and manually based on the the results

Since no one else answered... I can only say that's I've been doing a lot
of date related stuff lately, and am also quite confused about what
NSDateTimeOrdering is really for. Like you, I don't get it.

For what are you trying to use it? Maybe we can suggest an alternative.

i already have a working solution to do what i want, so no need to suggest alternatives thanks, but to answer your question: output dates (in formats that aren't catered for by the standard ones) in an ordering that the user would want.

i was asking about NSDateTimeOrdering out of curiosity more than anything -- also, thought that it would provide a much simpler way.

thanks, ben.
