Apple recommends using disk images for delivering applications.

That this may leave a dmg file behind is not a problem at all, since a lot of applications are delivered this way and the user is used to it (or will become so).

While you may use internet enabled dmgs, I personally don't like them at all, because I usually want to keep the files I downloaded. If the image is internet enabled, I have to go and pick it out of the trash.

Whatever you do, do not use a custom installer!
(Or, equally worse, some crap third party installer ...)
