Since NSCompoundPredicate is a subclass of NSPredicate, I'm hoping (and believe it likely) it's okay to use a compound predicate here.

Then why did you ask? :-)

Also, these kind of problems are easily answered by building a small test app.

I appreciate the confirmation, however in my previous e-mail, I mentioned that with my current struggle to understand all of Core Data's intricacies, getting a test application to the point of testing such a thing could take me quite some time. I believe I also mentioned that I was hoping it'd be quicker to have such a simple yes or no question answered (or rather, my suspicions confirmed) by someone more knowledgeable, which you have done - thanks.

FWIW I don't see the harm in asking the list a question like this; that's what it's here for. As you can see by my post, I have done my homework, but I couldn't find a simple yes/no to that relatively important question. The documentation is still very much a work in progress so questions like this are to be expected, just like Bindings last year. This question was answered in less than an hour by list as opposed to hours of struggling with other aspects of Core Data with which I'm unfamiliar just to build a test app. The choice is fairly clear. ;-)

I do appreciate your help, though, thanks again.
