Custom file previews in Open Panels

In a Cocoa application, is there a way for an application to inject a custom file preview in an Open panel?

I know that this functionality exists (or did exist at any rate) for Carbon applications through Navigation Services. I've been unable to find similar hooks in the Cocoa open panel, though.
