As of right now, I have a framework target, and a normal application target. The application makes use of the framework, however, the framework I've added to the applications copy build phase is the one that gets built in the debug directory, but what happens when I change my configuration? Is there a way to say "use the framework built from the same configuration as yourself"?

The framework icon you put in the copy build phase should come from the Products group of the Groups & Files list. That says what you mean to say.
