When I read a line like:
kern_return_t kret = host_statistics (mach_host_self(),
how can I find the documentation?
This has been bothering me for some time also. I've just filed a bug
report about the lack of man pages.
Download xnu 795.x.x and read the source? Ok, this is not THE
solution
but it can help.
First: how do I know, given some function, what source I have to
download from where?
And even if I would be able to download several gigabytes of code
there still remains the question: how to find a specific function
in this mass of data?
There is this truly wonderful Spotlight. But it appears that it
tries not to confuse the ordinary user by not looking into /
Developer or hidden things like /usr.
Strange. Spotlight searches /Developer on my system. Not /usr, though.
I succeeded in persuading Finder to show me all files (using some
hidden preference) - is there another hidden preference to make
Spotlight seach invisible folders?
Have you tried looking at the Mach manuals?
http://www-2.cs.cmu.edu/afs/cs/project/mach/public/www/doc/osf.html
They aren't a 100% match for Apple's version of Mach, but they do
tell you quite a bit, and a lot of the information is still pertinent.
Kind regards,
Alastair.
