As far as I can gather by your description, the user interface you are
seeking is NSOutlineView.
All of the details about how and why you're going to use it make it
unclear whether that's what you really want to know, though.

Greetings, all. I have a question that I have a feeling has most
likely been asked and answered before, but I'll be damned if I can
turn anything up in a search, so I apologize beforehand.
I am looking to have an interface similar to Mail.app. I won't have a
drawer but a window, but I would like my window to behave the same way
as the drawer in Mail.app in that when you click on In, it shows your
Inbox. When you click Out, it shows your Outbox. Except when people
clicked on something in my window, it would load a separate window
(which would be in it's own nib file, which I know how to load). But
I seriously can't find any past posts on this list to that effect.
Maybe I'm not using the right search terms.
Not looking for concrete answers here. Just a general push in the
right direction. Thanks, all! I'll keep searching as well.
