I absolutely agree... I'm quite happy developing on my 466MHz G3
iBook with 576MB of RAM, but using IB on 800x600 can be painful. I
have to juggle my app's window (which takes up the whole screen) the
nib window, the palettes, and the inspector... and if I need XCode on
the screen at the same time for some sort of drag & drop interaction,
well, I'm glad we have Exposé.
So get a big screen... but not so big that you forget about people
like me. Most apps I've used fit into 800x600, but I know that at
least some Apple sample apps don't.
I concur entirely. (Primary machine: 12" Powerbook, 867MHz; secondary
machine, iMac G3 DV+, 450MHz. Both run at 1024x768.) The screen real
estate is comfortable in XCode, but I have to shuffle palettes and
inspectors around a lot in Interface Builder -- not sufficiently
annoying to get a bigger machine next time around, but I think I'd be
annoyed at 800x600.
I'm also trying like hell to make an app that displays a *lot* of
information but which can run comfortably in 800x600; my approach so
far has been to aim at something that will run comfortably in 640x480
and miss by a little.
