I'd like to buy a Mac Mini. Not sure if it's capable enough to do cocoa dev? Do I need to buy the expensive model (1G RAM)?

Well, any Mac sold today is fast enough to do Cocoa development. Heck, my sister is doing Cocoa development on a 333MHz iMac, and it isn't horrible. Of course, it depends on what kind of programs you want to write. She's getting into OpenGL soon, so she may need a new one soon...

A good rule of thumb to find your minimal Mac is to get one that's the next size from your typical user's machine. That's the *minimal* one you should get. If you value your sanity, and don't want to have to buy a new Mac every year or so, getting a Mac with more RAM will definitely help you a lot in making it perform faster, and if you are annoyed by too high compile-times, you'll want a fast CPU.

That having been said, I used to develop on a G4/466, 384MB until recently. It worked pretty well, but if you like listening to MP3s or movies in the background and have Eudora open, too, you'll eventually want to get something better. (If you wanna know what I'm currently running, see http://zathras.de/angelweb/x2005-02-11c.htm)

RAM-wise I wouldn't start below 512MB these days, and since the Mini has only one RAM slot, max it out at 1GB if you can afford it, or you'll have to throw the 512MB away later (you can get the smaller model with 1GB RAM built-to-order). The smaller Mini's CPU will be just fine, but if you do something that does a lot with huge graphics files or other large data, you may want to get the bigger one for its DVD burner to make it easier to back up that stuff. But for programming itself, the smaller one will be fine.
