folder, and when I do a Spotlight search, I get results back from /
Developer/..

Are you sure you are finding the contents of files and not just the
filenames? Because that definitely does not work when I try it. You
can find filenames (i.e. searching for "NSString" will turn up
NSString.html), but not for contents of files that are not in the
filename.
